About Our Mission

Despite laws that prevent the slaughter of horses in the United States for consumption, People have found a way around that. In the horse industry, we have what is known as “kill buyers“ who go to auctions, buy horses that are no longer wanted for the lowest price possible- usually horses too old, sick/injured or unhandled horses, including BLM captured mustangs- and ship them out to Mexico and Canada, where slaughter is not only allowed, but is common. These trips are long and miserable. They transport these horses in trailers not designed for horses, which results in cramped horses that are forced to keep their heads down the entire time, not given food or water, unable to move around and crammed in with dominant horses that brutalize them along the way. If they survive the trip, they face more horrific conditions, where they are forced with painful methods like cattle prods and high pressure water to the face to run through the assembly line where they are slaughtered for meat.

This is a cruel and unacceptable end for over 20 thousand horses every year. Not only is our goal to save as many of these horses as we can and give them a second chance by finding them a good home, or humane euthanasia when necessary, but we want to deprive these kill buyers a “product” by outbidding and getting these horses directly from Auction houses. No product for kill buyers means no business.
